Newcastle ‘Agree’ Personal Terms with ‘Unbelievable’ Striker After Ekitike Snub
Newcastle United have agreed personal terms with Brentford striker Yoane Wissa and are pushing for a club-to-club agreement for a transfer, according to Sky Sports journalist Sacha Tavolieri.
The Magpies have had a difficult summer transfer window so far, having been pipped to several top targets while only being able to bring in Sweden international Anthony Elanga in a £55m deal from Nottingham Forest.
The latest player to snub a move to St James’ Park was Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, with the player preferring a move to Liverpool, and that has seen Eddie Howe’s side turn their attentions to DR Congo international Wissa instead.
Newcastle Agree Terms With Wissa
Pushing for agreement on fee with Brentford
Wissa, who has been described as ‘unbelievable’, became Newcastle’s top striker target after the Ekitike snub this week, with the club keen on bringing in a new forward to play alongside Alexander Isak.
The 28-year-old scored 19 Premier League goals last season in 35 games which has seen several clubs take note of his performances, but Brentford do not want to sell him after already losing manager Thomas Frank to Tottenham, Christian Norgaard to Arsenal and now agreeing a deal to sell Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United.
However, Newcastle are keen to strike an agreement with the Bees after they agreed personal terms with the striker, although the west London club are still not convinced by what the Magpies are offering them.
It’s understood that Brentford value Wissa in excess of £50m, and they have already rejected an offer from Nottingham Forest this summer for his services.
Newcastle are yet to make a formal bid but talks are ongoing over a deal to take him to St James’ Park, and now that they have the player’s buy-in too it’s likely this move will accelerate in the coming days.

Fabrizio Romano confirms Newcastle United player has rejected a move away from St James’ Park
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that a Newcastle United player has rejected a move to a Liga MX side this summer, with a club in Spain reportedly interested.
The summer transfer window is not going to plan for Eddie Howe and his recruitment team, with just one signing made for his first team so far.
Newcastle United confirmed the signing of Anthony Elanga on a five-year deal for a fee of around £55million. The winger ended a long wait for a quality right winger, but the same cannot be said for other positions.
Reports have stated Newcastle are set to miss out on James Trafford after Manchester City registered their interest in the 22-year-old star. Like Elanga, Trafford is a long-term Newcastle target, but it does not look like they will have the same fortunes as they did for the former.
While arrivals have been the main focus on Tyneside, departures are also being looked at. Sean Longstaff was confirmed as a Leeds United player on Friday night, and Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed another player recently turned down a move to the Liga MX on loan.

Odysseas Vlachodimos rejects loan move to Pumas
After the season he had, it is clear that Odysseas Vlachodimos has absolutely no future on Tyneside. The 31-year-old played just 45 minutes for the Magpies in a Carabao Cup game against AFC Wimbledon.
Odysseas was snubbed from Premier League squads for John Ruddy, a player seven years his senior. It was reported that Al-Shabab made an offer for Odysseas in January, but Newcastle quickly rejected it as they did not see the deal being worth anywhere near what they are looking for.
Newcastle are allowing Odysseas to leave on loan this summer, with a permanent move ruled out due to PSR concerns.
In a since-deleted post on X, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Odysseas rejected a loan move to Liga MX side Pumas. The Greece international wants to stay in Europe for the good of his career and his family.
While no approach has been made, Romano stated that La Liga side Villarreal are also interested in him this summer.

Odysseas Vlachodimos needs to leave Newcastle United for the good of his career
As the days go by, it becomes even clearer that Odysseas’ move to Newcastle was pointless. He joined the Magpies for £20m in a cheeky double deal which saw Elliot Anderson go to Nottingham Forest.
