Sky Sports pundit says why Sheffield Wednesday are yet to confirm Danny Rohl exit, ‘the reason…’

Danny Rohl is expected to leave Sheffield Wednesday this summer, but the club are yet to officially announce a decision.

The German has enjoyed two solid seasons with the Owls, having saved them from relegation in 2023/24 before a mid-table finish last term.

However, things took a turn for the worse towards the end of 2024/25 with Danny Rohl linked with several jobs.

Rohl did not turn up to the start of pre-season as he eyed an exit, and Sheffield Wednesday players were unhappy with the manager.

Now, his future at Hillsborough Stadium has been discussed by one Sky Sports pundit.

Danny Rohl Sheffield Wednesday future

As well as Rohl’s future, Sheffield Wednesday have had multiple embargoes placed on them due to financial problems.

These issues have seen a number of top stars sold or have their contracts terminated – Josh Windass and Michael Smith being the latest.

Now, Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie has been discussing Rohl’s situation with the Owls.

And he suggested a decision on his future has not been made yet, due to all the other problems behind the scenes.

He told Football League World: “I just think it needs to be resolved very quickly, I think it needs to be made a decision and I think the reason why it hasn’t been made is because of what’s going on behind the scenes in who’s going to be coming in and taking on the football club.

“But yeah, this needs to be resolved for Sheffield Wednesday because it’s all looking very much of a shambles at the moment, the quicker it’s resolved the better because as I said the season is just around the corner.”

What we know about Danny Rohl leaving Sheffield Wednesday

EFL Analysis broke the news earlier this week that Rohl will be leaving Sheffield Wednesday.

We understand that talks over whether the German leaves outright or is placed on gardening leave are still ongoing.

But we do expect that the former Bayern Munich coach will indeed depart this summer.

Assistant coach Henrik Pedersen is expected to take charge of the first team.

Neil Warnock reveals truth about Sheffield Wednesday job offer, he really ‘wanted to go’ despite Blades links

EFL veteran Neil Warnock has made a startling admission about his time as Sheffield United head coach regarding their bitter rivals, Sheffield Wednesday.

Sheffield Wednesday have dominated the Championship headlines this summer for all the wrong reasons.

Overseen by owner Dejphon Chansiri, the Owls are in the midst of a financial crisis, with an EFL transfer embargo still hanging over Hillsborough.

The club’s financial crisis has seen forward duo Josh Windass and Michael Smith exit Sheffield Wednesday, and head coach Danny Rohl will soon join the pair out the exit doors, with Rohl set to leave Sheffield Wednesday soon.

Amid the club’s financial turmoil, legendary EFL manager Neil Warnock has lifted the lid on his previous move to become the Owls boss, which never materialised.

Neil Warnock ‘would have taken’ Sheffield Wednesday manager job

76-year-old Warnock is one of English Football’s most iconic managers, for his 40-year-long history in the dugout, and his larger-than-life presence.

From 1999-2007, Warnock was the manager of the Owls’ arch rivals, Sheffield United, where he suffered relegation from the Premier League with his boyhood club in 2006/07 after earning promotion from the Championship in the prior season.

Despite Warnock being a boyhood Blades fan, the Englishman has revealed he “would have taken” the Sheffield Wednesday job after initially being offered the job by former Owls chairman Milan Mandaric.

When probed on whether there was any truth in the Owls links, Warnock told Radio X: “Yeah, there was. Yeah, I would have took that, because I’d fallen out with people at Sheffield United, and I thought, ‘I’ll show them if that’s the case.’

“And I did. I spoke to Milan, who was Milan Mandarić, and I spoke to him, and he offered me the job and all that.

“And I said, ‘Alright, I tell you what, Milan, because I like you as a person’ – It was a Friday – I said, ‘You have a think about it, and talk to your chief exec and all that that and then ring me up on Monday morning at nine o’clock. If you still want me to manage you, I’ll manage you.’
