Rodrygo set to top terrible list of Real Madrid stars moving to the Premier League

Liverpool are said to be ‘accelerating’ a move for Real Madrid star Rodrygo to replace Luis Diaz amid widely reported interest from Arsenal, less widely reported interest from Manchester City and presumed interest from Chelsea, because it’s Chelsea and they want all the forwards.

But they should perhaps pump the brakes after casting an eye over this truly appalling comprehensive list of honking flops who have made the move from Real Madrid to the Premier League, in order of transfer fee.

Not a target’ – insider gives Tottenham fans unsurprising reality check on dream FW

Tottenham are not making a real splash this year.

Tottenham Hotspur are heading into the 2025/26 Premier League season with aspirations of competing for a top-five place, but after finishing 17th in the league last season, they are living on a pipe dream if they think Mohammed Kudus as the only signing can lift them up to that status.

Kudus is a great help and has the upside to develop into one of the best wingers in the Premier League, but Tottenham’s attack is still a way’s off of clubs like Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, and even Chelsea at the top of the Premier League table.

The best thing Tottenham can do is sign world-class players who are also courted by these elite clubs and actually beat Liverpool, Arsenal, and the others to these signings. That’s the best way they can compete to win the title – or at least secure a safe finish in the top five.

Speaking on the Transfer Talk podcast, Sam Tighe suggests that Arsenal should be targeting Real Madrid's Rodrygo this summer and claims he's the calibre of player to take the club to the next level.

Right now, the most prominent of those transfer targets is Real Madrid winger Rodrygo Goes. The talented young forward loves Real Madrid but is now open to a move after feeling marginalized by the club during the 2024/25 season following the addition of superstar Kylian Mbappe.

Tottenham never go for the real big targets

Rodrygo even got his benching orders by the end of the campaign, and even new manager Xabi Alonso hasn’t been interested in giving Rodrygo starts; the Brazilian international rode the bench during the Club World Cup.

Recent reports have indicated that Tottenham are finally joining London rivals Chelsea and Arsenal, as well as defending Premier League champions Liverpool, with interest in the 24-year-old Madrid forward. But it appears any hopes of signing Rodrygo are premature.

According to a new report from Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Rodrygo Goes is, in fact, “not a target” for Tottenham Hotspur. Plettenberg states that the initial rumors that Spurs are after the Real Madrid star are simply “wide of the mark”, putting things back to a three-horse race among usual suspects Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea.

Newcastle now set to take key next step in Wissa deal after offer rejected

It’s an entirely unsurprising transfer blow to a Tottenham fanbase that is used to Daniel Levy and the club showing zero interest in actually competing with the big boys in European football for elite targets. It was the same story last year with Desire Doue, this year early in the window with Rayan Cherki, and now it will be the same case with Rodrygo. And every Tottenham fan who doubted this rumor when it first emerged won’t even bother saying “I told you so”

19) Christian Karambeu (Middlesbrough, £2.1m)
We’re in absolute agreement with Karambeu, who insisted his move to Teeside from Madrid was a “big, big deal” on the back of two Champions League titles in three years for Los Blancos, to go with his World Cup and European Championship winners medals with France. Boro finished 14th in his only season before Karambeu upped sticks to Olympiacos.

18) Davor Suker (Arsenal, £3.5m)
Bought as a replacement for Nicolas Anelka, who moved in the opposite direction for £22.3m, it’s fair to say Croatia’s World Cup 1998 hero wasn’t quite like-for-like, scoring just 11 goals in 39 appearances. Fortunately Arsenal also signed a certain Thierry Henry in the same summer.

17) Fernando Morientes (Liverpool, £6.3m)
He managed just 12 goals in 61 appearances and later admitted he was the “worst version of myself” during a two-year stint as Anfield which was “killing me slowly”. Yikes.

Newcastle now set to take key next step in Wissa deal after offer rejected

Newcastle United aren’t giving up on their chase to sign an attacking reinforcement and are now reportedly set to take their next key step towards their top target.

Eddie Howe admits Newcastle “frustration”

The Magpies have faced an endless brick wall in pursuit of their top targets so far this summer – whether it’s been Joao Pedro, Bryan Mbeumo or Hugo Ekitike. Reports are now even suggesting that Manchester City could hijack their move to sign Burnley shot-stopper James Trafford. But Eddie Howe and everyone else involved at St James’ Park are not giving up on welcoming much-needed reinforcements just yet.

The Newcastle boss shared his thoughts on a frustrating summer recently, admitting that Newcastle were hoping to get any business done early but have simply been unable to get deals over the line.

“I wish I could give you clarity, and some kind of guarantee that this or that is going to happen, but I can’t. My wish was for us to do our business early, and we certainly tried, but it wasn’t to be.

“We’ve had a frustrating time in terms of losing targets to other clubs. I’ll be very open on that – that’s happened on several occasions. But you just have to accept it.

“In order for a transfer to really work, in my opinion, the players has to be desperate to come to your club. If we don’t get that, the transfer doesn’t work.

“We’re seeking players that are good enough, that are desperate to come, and that can make the difference. They’re on short supply for us, but we’re confident that we can try to get some more players in to strengthen the depth of the squad. We’re certainly aware that we need to, and we’re trying to do everything we can to do that.”

All involved in Tyneside will be desperate not to miss out on any more targets and reports are now suggesting that they’re working to ensure that their striker problem is finally solved.

Newcastle United change transfer masterplan to pursue Yoane Wissa deal | Chronicle Live

Newcastle expected to take key Wissa step

As reported by GiveMeSport, Newcastle are now expected to submit an improved offer to sign Yoane Wissa after Brentford rejected their opening bid worth around £25m. Whether that second bid, which will reportedly be worth £30m, is successful remains to be seen, but the striker has told the Bees he wants to leave.
