Newcastle get Yoane Wissa transfer update as Brentford boss issues stern message
Yoane Wissa left Brentford’s pre-season camp in Portugal earlier this week due to ongoing speculation over his future – but Brentford have hopes he will remain with the club
Keith Andrews has revealed he expects Newcastle target Yoane Wissa to return to Brentford training next week. The DR Congo international forward left the club’s pre-season camp in Portugal earlier this week due to ongoing speculation over his future.
So far, Brentford have rebuffed one offer from Newcastle which was worth in excess of £25million and they have also knocked back a bid from Nottingham Forest.
Wissa is open to a new challenge following the departures of Thomas Frank, Bryan Mbeumo and Christian Norgaard but Andrews insists he expects the forward to rejoin the group.
The former Republic of Ireland international told Brentford’s media team: “He has gone back to London. It was his decision, obviously because of speculation.
There are clubs interested and he felt it was the right thing to go back to London. It’s simple really, he folds back into the group next week when we come back to training.”

Newcastle, who are set to resume talks this weekend after a personal matter delayed discussions at the Brentford end, are not the only club in the hunt for Wissa, who struck 19 goals in four assists in the Premier League last season.
Tottenham and Forest remain keen. Spurs tried to land Wissa in January but the extent of their interest this summer could yet depend on the outcome of Morgan Gibbs-White’s future.
Wolves also looked at the 28-year-old last August but he eventually stayed put in west London before going on to enjoy the best campaign of his career to date.
Brentford drew 1-1 with Portuguese side Gil Vicente on Friday as Igor Thiago found the target for Andrews’ men.
Newcastle are continuing to press for Wissa and their pursuit of the player will not be determined by Alexander Isak’s future.
Eddie Howe wants to bring in Wissa to play with the Swede but there is every chance Isak could now quit St James’ Park after he expressed his desire to explore his options.
RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko is top of Newcastle’s shortlist where Isak replacements are concerned and discussions with the Slovenia’s reps are continuing over personal terms.
Arsenal have scheduled another round of talks over the signing of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, according to Florian Plettenberg. The Sky Sports Deutschland reporter says that, while there is no full agreement yet for a deal to sign the 22-year-old, the Gunners remain very positive that they can land a player that manager Mikel Arteta is keen on. Slovenia international Sesko scored 21 goals for Leipzig last season, including four in eight UEFA Champions League appearances. The Bundesliga club are yet to receive an official bid for the star forward, but it could take a fee of up to €100 million to let him go.
