Newcastle United are locked in talks to sign Yoane Wissa after the DR Congo international made it clear he was keen on a move away from Brentford.

Head coach Eddie Howe is eager to move on from the Alexander Isak saga one way or another but made it clear that regardless of whether the Sweden star stays or not, the club are still in the hunt for a forward.

The 28-year-old was allowed to leave Brentford’s training camp in Portugal last week for talks with the Bees’ director of football Phil Giles.

Wissa has been left frustrated by Newcastle’s repeated approaches being turned down, with the striker keen to make the move to the north east.

Howe said yesterday: “All I would say on the broader picture is whatever happens has to be right for Newcastle. We’re in a very strong position financially, we’re determined to be successful, we are ambitious, we’ve got a great season ahead of us.

“We need to add to the squad and continue to improve, and the journey can continue on an upwards trajectory. I think that’s what we all want so that’s what we’re battling to try and achieve.”We have multiple players we are looking at in multiple positions, but it’s a challenge because prices are going up. We need to bring players in, we need to do business. We need the options and the (squad) depth as we found out two years ago with Champions League football.”

The departure of Kudus has left a creative hole in the middle of the West Ham team, which has been seen in the Ghanaian’s first two Spurs appearances.

Adli has the potential to fill that gap, but he would need to rediscover his form from Leverkusen’s invincible season.
