Watch: Coco Gauff and Carlos Alcaraz visit ‘The Forbidden City‘ with traditional clothing before China Open

Coco Gauff and Carlos Alcaraz are seeking to become women’s and men’s singles champions, respectively, at the China Open in Beijing. However, before the event, they met at the ‘The Forbidden City’ to get to know more about the local culture.

Alcaraz arrived in Beijing after helping Team Europe win its fifth Laver Cup in Berlin. The Spaniard showed his leadership skills on the court by winning eight points out of Team Europe’s 13 at the event. He has also helped Spain earn a quarterfinal place at the Davis Cup after finishing top of Group B.

On the other hand, Gauff didn’t enjoy the North American hard court swing. She failed to defend her Cincinnati title after exiting in the second round. At the US Open, she defeated Varvara GrachevaTatjana Maria, and Elina Svitolina to reach the fourth round. She then lost to fellow compatriot Emma Navarro in three sets.

Despite dropping to World No. 5 after failing to defend her US Open title, Gauff is hoping for a turnaround in China. She met with World No.3 Alcaraz, in their traditional attire enjoying ‘The Forbidden City’.

In the same video, Gauff expressed excitement at being given the opportunity to wear traditional clothing.

Alcaraz will Open his China Open campaign against Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard on Thursday (September 26), while Gauff will play Clara Burel in the first round on Friday (September 27).

Carlos Alcaraz projected to play Jannik Sinner in the final of the China Open

Carlos Alcaraz is projected to face his biggest rival, Jannik Sinner, in the final of the China Open. The Spaniard reached the semifinals last year and lost to the Italian in straight sets. He has met Sinner twice this year, winning both matches, and went on to win the titles at both events. However, Sinner has been in great form recently, winning the Cincinnati Open and US Open.

Sinner will begin his China Open campaign against Chilean Nicolas Jarry before facing German Jan-Lennard Struff or Stan Wawrinka in the next round. His first major test is expected to be against Grigor Dimitrov in the quarterfinals. Should he beat the Bulgarian, Sinner will likely play Andrey Rublev in the semifinals.

On the other hand, Alcaraz will play French sensation Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in the first round before facing Tallon Griekspoor or Miomir Kecmanovic in the second round. He is projected to face either Francisco Cerundolo or Karen Khachanov in the last eight, while Daniil Medvedev awaits him in the semifinal.
