Detroit Lions Have Devastating Update On Aidan Hutchinson’s Injury

The Detroit Lions notched an important and impressive Week 6 win over a 2023 playoff team on Sunday as they defeated the Dallas Cowboys 47-9 at AT&T Stadium. The victory improved the Lions’ record to 4-1 on the season, but they suffered a devastating injury in the process.

Star defensive end Aidan Hutchinson suffered a painful-looking injury in the third quarter. Initially, the Lions ruled the third-year defender out of the game with a lower-leg injury.

Hutchinson had made an impact in the Week 6 game before exiting, as he recorded three total tackles and one sack.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the No. 2 pick in the 2022 draft had immediate surgery for a broken tibia.

“Injury update: Lions DE Aidan Hutchinson underwent immediate surgery at a Dallas-area hospital for what the team is now calling a broken tibia,” Schefter posted on X.

“Obviously, (Hutchinson’s) going to be down for a while,” Lions coach Dan Campbell said. “So that’s tough, it is when you lose somebody like him. But we’ll know a lot more after this and, obviously, wish him the best.”

Per the Cleveland Clinic, the recovery time for a broken tibia is typically a few months. The injury Sunday may end Hutchinson’s season.

Hutchinson is the best defender on the defending NFC North champions. The former Michigan standout has recorded 16 total tackles, 6.5 sacks and one forced fumble this season. He is the league leader in sacks.

Rookie pass rusher Isaac Ukwu is listed as Hutchinson’s backup on the Lions’ depth chart. Ukwu is an undrafted rookie free agent out of Ole Miss. He has recorded two tackles this season; all of those tackles came against the Cowboys.
