• The Miami Marlins have hired Rachel Balkovec as their new farm director, reports ESPN’s Jeff Passan. She was most recently a manager in the New York Yankees’ minor-league system. (Jan. 9)
• The Chicago Cubs are naming Jason Kanzler as their next director of player development and Ryan Otero as the organization’s director of pitching, reports The Athletic’s Sahadev Sharma. (Jan. 1)
• The Chicago Cubs have hired bullpen coach Darren Holmes and catching coach Mark Strittmatter to join Craig Counsel’s staff, reports The Athletic’s Sahadev Sharma. (Dec. 19)
• Former New York Yankees hitting coach Dillon Lawson is joining the Boston Red Sox as a minor-league hitting coordinator, focusing on upper-level players, reports The Athletic’s Brendan Kuty. (Dec. 19)
• The Miami Marlins hired Frankie Piliere as their new scouting director, reports the Miami Herald’s Craig Mish. Piliere was the assistant scouting director for the Seattle Mariners previously. (Dec. 13)
• The Atlanta Braves announced a handful of changes to their MLB coaching staff. Former Triple-A Gwinnett manager Matt Tuiasosopo will be the third base coach, Tom Goodwin will be the first base coach and Erick Abreu will be the bullpen coach. Additionally, bench coach Walt Weiss will oversee the infield. (Dec. 11)
• The St. Louis Cardinals announced their 2024 coaching staff. Every coach from the 2023 staff except Joe McEwing have returned to the Cardinals, who also added to their staff. The full list is Oliver Marmol, manager; Daniel Descalso, bench coach; Dusty Blake, pitching coach; Turner Ward, hitting coach; Stubby Clapp, first base coach; Pop Warner, third base coach; Willie McGee, coach; Packy Elkins, game planning coach; Brandon Allen, assistant hitting coach; Dean Kiekhefer, assistant pitching coach; Julio Rangel, assistant pitching/bullpen coach; Jamie Pogue, assistant major league/bullpen coach; Kleininger Teran, bullpen catcher; DC Maclea, major league coordinator of technology and systems. • The Los Angeles Angels are bringing Alex Cultice onto their major-league coaching staff as the head of game planning for the team’s pitchers, reports The Athletic’s Sam Blum. Cultice previously served in that role with the Arizona Diamondbacks. (Dec. 7)
