After closing the season with four straight wins, Florida Football coach Billy Napier has some goodwill heading into the offseason that he hopes to parlay into some much-needed recruiting momentum for the class of 2026.
But not everyone around the country thinks Napier is safe heading into 2025 and still has him firmly on the hot seat.
Florida Football: Hot Hot Hot
Andy Staples of On3 put out a list of coaches who are on the hot seat heading into 2025, and he has Napier on it.
Now you might be saying “Hey wait a second, didn’t Staples also have Florida in the top ten of his ‘Way Too Early’ poll last week,” and you would be correct. Staples acknowledges that while he thinks Florida will be a much better team in 2025, he also doesn’t think Napier can survive another 7-5 campaign.
And if we are being honest, he’s not wrong.
We here at Hail Florida Hail still have our concerns about Napier heading into 2025. The lack of activity in the transfer portal, combined with his decision to stay as offensive coordinator, raises some early red flags that won’t get answered until Florida travels to LSU in week three.
And if Napier goes 7-5 again in 2025, there will be zero justifiable merits for Napier to retain his job other than Scott Stricklin accepting mediocrity.
But most of the “Way Too Early” polls that have Florida ranked as high as 9th also see a pathway for DJ Lagway to carry this team to a 10-2 or better season. If the defensive play from the end of the season carries over and Lagway winds up being who we hope he becomes, Napier will be able to take his hot seat and chuck it into Lake Alice by potentially the first bye week.
