Adelaide Crows linked with move to lure Patrick Dangerfield back
A rival club has been linked with a shock move to sign Geelong skipper Patrick Dangerfield, who is a free agent at season’s end.
The Adelaide Crows are reportedly keen to lure former club champion Patrick Dangerfield back to South Australia.
Dangerfield, 34, was taken by the Crows with pick 10 in the 2007 AFL Draft and spent the first eight seasons of his career in Adelaide, where he was named an All Australian three times and won a best and fairest award in 2015.

In order to return to his hometown of Moggs Creek, which is located just outside of Geelong, Dangerfield, a free agent, decided to sign with the Cats after playing 154 games for Adelaide.
Dangerfield has earned a Brownlow Medal, five more All Australian selections, and a premiership in 2022 in just 171 more games played in blue and white so far.
After this season, Dangerfield will once again be a free agent, and Channel 7 reporter Mitch Cleary reports that he is being pursued by the Crows for a reunion.
According to Cleary on 7 News Melbourne, “Adelaide has made an audacious bid to lure Patrick Dangerfield back to where he started.”
The Crows recently made a pitch to Dangerfield about how his experience and age would make him the ideal addition to their young roster.
Before departing for Geelong at the end of 2015, Dangerfield played for the Crows for the first eight years of his career.
“And it demonstrates the Crows’ level of aggression in the trade market this off-season.”
The Crows have progressively rebuilt their roster and climbed the AFL ladder since Matthew Nicks was named head coach prior to the 2020 campaign.
After finishing in tenth place the previous season, Adelaide was given a shot at playing in the finals in 2024. Despite losing their first four games, they have since won three straight, including victories over Port Adelaide and Carlton.
Dangerfield will probably stay in Geelong to pursue his career, according to Cleary.
“A competitor could sign Dangerfield for nothing because he is a free agent,” he stated.
“And while this strategy to see him end his career as a Crow will give him something to consider, staying with Geelong, where he’s had early extension talks, is still the most likely outcome.
