“He is in a good vibrational state. He wants Angus to know this: In 1997, AC/DC witnessed a seance in which an attempt was made to make contact with Bon Scott.
Given the lengthy and illustrious history of bad music industry concepts, it’s plausible that the psychic celebration held in honor of the 1997 box set Bonfire by AC/DC was the worst of them all.
To commemorate Bon Scott’s 50th birthday, Bonfire was released. It featured a disc of rarities, the band’s Let There Be Rock concert movie soundtrack, the amazing Live At Atlantic Studios (which was first released as a radio-only promo in 1978), and, strangely, a remastered version of Back In Black.
In an attempt to generate excitement for the release, which was, to be honest, a little lackluster, a seance was planned, most likely in cooperation with the band’s record label, wherein attempts were made to get in touch with the deceased frontman.
Full-time psychic and ghost hunter Peter James was called in to conduct the seance, which happened on Halloween night during a live radio broadcast in the company of AC/DC’sAngusYoung and Brian Johnson. James was obviously the right person for the job; he had spent several years as the resident psychic on the television show Sightings and claimed to have seen his first ghost at the age of seven.
“I’ve been tuning into Bon Scott’s vibrations all day long and I was asked to be a part of this show on this joyous occasion as a tribute to him,” James says. “I genuinely believe he is with us in spirit. He’s driving the highways in the sky and having a ball, he says to Angus, and he’s not the only dirty old man in the band anymore, whatever that means.
He’s happy that the band is still going strong even though he couldn’t be there to play all the music he wanted to. He also feels very happy that the band is carrying on without him.
“Very good,” says the disbelieving host. “Do you notice anything else that you feel or see?”
James adds, “I feel like Bon is leading the band,” and we can only assume he’s making this shit up as he goes. “I feel like he’s travelled with them a lot and is with them more than they realize,” the band member said. “He’s being a big influence on the material that they’re now writing.”
James goes on, “Bon is in a very good place vibrationally, he’s very very pleased with what’s going on,” and then he recalls that he was probably paid a fee to participate in this farce. “Let me make a forecast about Bonfire: it will be an enormous success, so go buy it as soon as it’s released.”
It’s unclear exactly what the musicians viewing this nonsense think of it, but according to MTV News, Brian Johnson doubted whether successful communication had been made with the other side.
Johnson remarked, “If Bon was there, he’d be too busy shaggin’ something.” “All the attractive women would be up there with him. He wouldn’t bother making the trip down here.”
