What an absolute honor it was to be part of the 50th Anniversary celebration of University of Oklahoma Softball! Words can hardly express the depth of my emotions as I stood on that field once again, surrounded by such an incredible group of alumni, coaches, and athletes. The energy of the Sooners was as palpable as ever, and it was a moment I will cherish forever. This wasn’t just a reunion; it was a beautiful celebration of the legacy we built, the friendships we forged, and the game that shaped so much of who we are today.
When I first heard about the event, I couldn’t believe it. Forty years had passed since my time on that field, yet I could still feel the excitement and passion that came with being a part of the OU Softball family. There’s something magical about reconnecting with your teammates, especially after such a long time. It’s as if no time has passed at all. The bond we share—our history together—remains unbroken, and the memories flood back as if they were made yesterday. Laughter filled the air, and we reminisced about everything from our favorite games to the challenges we faced and overcame together.
It was truly a gift to reconnect with those familiar faces, to share stories and relive the glory days. And while some things had changed—years had gone by, lives had evolved—the essence of what it meant to be a Sooner remained the same. The love, the camaraderie, and the unshakable support for one another were ever-present. Stepping back onto that field, I could feel the heartbeat of the program in every corner. I could almost hear the crack of the bat and the cheer of the crowd, as if it were yesterday.
What made this experience even more special was being recognized by the university, by Coach Patty Gasso, and by the fans who have been cheering for the Sooners for decades. There’s something uniquely special about being acknowledged for your contribution to the legacy of such a storied program. I felt an immense sense of pride and gratitude—grateful for the opportunities I had, the friendships I made, and for the chance to continue to be part of something that has had such a lasting impact on my life.
And then, the moment that truly took my breath away. Coach Patty Gasso herself came over to me, and with a smile, she said, “I’ve heard about you…” Well, to say I was floored would be an understatement. Coach Gasso is a legend in her own right, and for her to acknowledge me and say those words was something I never imagined in my wildest dreams. I couldn’t help but laugh and joke back, saying, “Yep, I was definitely a bit of a troublemaker.” It was the perfect moment to laugh about the past and reflect on how far we’ve all come. We’ve all grown, evolved, and, in a way, we’re still shining—just with a little more sparkle and a whole lot more wisdom now.
As I stood there, talking with Coach Gasso and other alumni, I couldn’t help but reflect on the incredible journey that led me to this point. It was a journey filled with hard work, sacrifice, and unforgettable moments. But more than anything, it was a journey that was defined by the people I met along the way—the teammates, the coaches, the fans, and the incredible community that surrounded the OU Softball program. It was these relationships that shaped me, both as a player and as a person, and to reconnect with so many of them after all these years felt like coming home.
There’s something special about being part of a program like OU Softball. From the very first time I stepped onto that field, I knew I was part of something greater than myself. It wasn’t just about winning games or earning recognition—it was about representing something bigger. It was about the pride that comes with wearing the crimson and cream, about being part of a tradition that stretches far beyond the field of play. The history, the legacy, the impact—these are the things that make the University of Oklahoma Softball program so unique. And to be recognized, all these years later, for my small part in it, was truly humbling.
For me, this experience was about more than just nostalgia; it was about celebration. It was a celebration of the legacy we helped build, a celebration of the enduring sisterhood that defines this program, and a celebration of the game itself. Softball, like many sports, teaches you so much about life. It teaches you about perseverance, about facing adversity, about the value of teamwork, and about the importance of never giving up. Those lessons stay with you long after the final pitch is thrown.
As we gathered together with all the alumni, I couldn’t help but marvel at how much the program has grown over the years. The success, the innovation, and the culture of excellence that Coach Gasso and her team have fostered are unparalleled. The achievements of the current team are a testament to the hard work and dedication that has been passed down through generations of Sooners. Watching them play, you could see the same fire in their eyes that we had when we were on that field. It was inspiring to see the torch being carried forward, knowing that the future of OU Softball is in such capable hands.
The memories we shared during that reunion were not just about looking back—they were also about looking forward. We were not just celebrating the past; we were celebrating what we had helped to build, and what was still to come. The legacy of OU Softball is one of excellence, one that is continuously evolving, and I’m so proud to be a part of it.
In the end, what made this experience so special was the sense of family that was present throughout the event. It wasn’t just about recognition; it was about the connections we made, the stories we shared, and the love we still have for the game and for each other. Being a part of this program, even after all these years, means something more than just being a former player—it means being part of a lifelong community. And that community, that bond, is something that will never fade, no matter how much time passes.
My heart is so full as I reflect on this incredible experience. I’m filled with gratitude for the University of Oklahoma, for the coaches and teammates who have been such an important part of my life, and for the opportunity to be a part of something that is so much bigger than myself. I’m so thankful for the memories, for the laughter, and for the chance to come together with so many amazing people who have had such a profound impact on me.
I’ll forever treasure the moments shared, the stories told, and the way it all came full circle. It truly was an unforgettable celebration of legacy, sisterhood, and the game that shaped us all. Once a Sooner, always a Sooner. The love for this program will never fade, and I’m proud to have been a part of it. And no matter where life takes me, that bond, that spirit, will always remain a part of who I am. Thank you, OU Softball, for an experience I’ll never forget.
