Simone Biles is arguably the GOATed American gymnast ahead of her third Olympic Games this summer. Already history’s most-decorated gymnast with 37 total medals to her name, Biles can become the most-honored Olympic gymnast in United States history if she wins one medal in Paris later this month.

Biles’ return to the top of the gymnastics world came after some trying times in her life. The 27-year-old has overcome tremedous personal difficulties to take part in what could be her final Olympics, and her story will be afforded more depth in a forthcoming Netflix docuseries.

On July 17, Netflix will debut “Simone Biles Rising,” which includes disturbing details about Biles’ connection to Larry Nassar, the disgraced former team doctor for the US national women’s gymnastics team. Biles’ controversial withdrawal from the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo was conditioned by the abuse she suffered at Nassar‘s hands, several years prior.

“I don’t want another young gymnast, or Olympic athlete, or any individual to experience the horror that I and hundreds of others have endured before, during and continuing to this day in the wake of the Larry Nassar abuse,” Biles told NBC News.

Biles said she suffered from a complete lack of confidence in herself and her abilities following the abuse, and she felt that “push(ing) down” and repressing the trauma hurt more than it helped her. It wasn’t until 2023 that Biles said she could truly compete again.
