Tottenham to confirm transfer as ‘surprising’ Man City agreement reached – Exclusive
Tottenham appear set for a busy summer in the transfer market as they transition into the Thomas Frank era.
The Dane recently took charge of the Lilywhites for the first time, and that will surely have shown him plenty regarding the current level of his squad, as well as the positions that he will need to add to before the start of their Premier League campaign.
Spurs are locked in an ongoing saga regarding Morgan Gibbs-White, as they continue to push to sign the Nottingham Forest star.
Their pursuit of the England midfielder has raced to the forefront of their thinking in recent weeks, but the North Londoners are still working on other transfer deals in the background.
Dexter Oliver to leave Spurs as Man City transfer agreed
Dexter Oliver seems set to leave Spurs imminently, having recently reached an agreement to join Manchester City, according to Fabrizio Romano via X (16 July).
The 16-year-old is extremely highly thought of at Hotspur Way, but now it looks as though the N17 outfit will lose out on one of their most impressive young talents.
Strong competition in the midfield throughout Tottenham’s youth ranks has been mooted as a potential reason for Oliver’s decision, as he looks set to become the latest starlet to make the switch to the Etihad Stadium.
However, ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes that the youngster won’t find opportunities any more readily available in Manchester.
“I’m afraid in football, there’s competition for all positions at every club,” King said.
“I would have thought that he (Oliver) would have knuckled down and had a go at Tottenham, because I can’t see it being any easier for him at Manchester City.
“They’ve just signed a young Norwegian player from Rosenborg and paid £12million for him.
“It’s surprising that the kid isn’t prepared to have a go. If he’s that good, and Manchester City obviously think he is, then Spurs must have some very, very talented players in his position.”
Tottenham will be frustrated with Oliver
Spurs have been facing interest in Oliver for some time now, and they will surely be frustrated with the decision that the youngster has now arrived at.
Frank’s side has demonstrated the pathway that is available to their brightest young talents with Mikey Moore’s recent emergence as a first-team player, so to see a player turn their back on that will be disappointing.
Oliver is a long way from first-team minutes at the moment, but the Lilywhites won’t want to make a habit of losing some of their best young talent.
It is unclear how the midfielder’s future will play out at City, but Spurs will surely be concerned by the decision that he has made.
