New Mexico United announced forward Cristian Nava has reinjured his knee.
The Albuquerque native was recovering from a torn ACL that sidelined him the entire 2023 season. That injury happened in late March 2023, and the club said he was nearly done with his recovery.
Nava will undergo surgery and is expected to need eight months to recover. This will cause him to miss another season, his second in a row due to ACL injuries.
United head coach Eric Quill said despite his absence on the pitch, the club will support Nava through another rehab process.
“Cristian has shown incredible growth through this long recovery process, and we are blessed to have him in our locker room,” Quill said. “Every coach, player and staff member is committed to being there for Cristian and fighting for him all season long.”
The club said it is committed to providing Nava with recovery care and support.
