Rangers Women Chelsea Cornet and Nicola Doherty in Scotland victory to secure promotion
Rangers Women duo Nicola Docherty and Chelsea Cornet were part of the Scotland Women side which secured promotion to Nations League A with victory over Serbia.
Both played the full 90 minutes on 16 July as a tight 1-0 win via a goal from Aston Villa’s Kirsty Hanson secured the points.
The result rounded out an unbeaten European Championship qualifying which sees Scotland top League B Group 2 with 16 points.
The Gers Women reacted via X on the night to congratulate the national side.
New Rangers signing Leah Eddie on the bench
New signing Leah Eddie was also on the bench for the narrow victory on what was a positive night for the side.
Being in the lower tier of the Nations League was clearly a disappointment but Pedro Martinez Losa’s group have comprehensively got the job done to top the group without tasting defeat, landing promotion on the way.
Jo Potter will hope her contingent return without any new fitness concerns and the positive feeling from the international exploits can be translated into the new season.
The opening day clash with Aberdeen is now less than a month away on 11 August as the Light Blues look to bounce back after their bid to recapture the SWPL from Glasgow City fell short.
Finishing the regular season top only to lose out on goal-difference as Celtic recorded their first title win was a rough experience and the likes of Eddie’s arrival this summer is designed to help elicit a strong reaction.
