Birmingham City Star Linked With Leeds United Switch

Leeds United hold 'strong interest' in Birmingham City star amid Glen Kamara replacement search

Birmingham City could be about to lose a major player within their side as Championship giants Leeds United have shown interest in him.

After Birmingham’s disastrous relegation to League One last season, a lot of their highly-rated players have been subject to interest from clubs in higher divisions.

Many clubs in the Championship are looking to the Blues’ players to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

However, with Birmingham’s recent change in financial status, they appear to be under no real pressure to sell any of their stars this transfer window.

Is Jordan James on the move?

According to Football Insider, Leeds United have registered interest in signing 20-year-old Birmingham sensation Jordan James this summer but faces competition from at least one Premier League club.

Despite being just 20 years old, James has already made over 100 appearances for the Blues, a staggering number for a player to have at such a young age.

He is also a fully-fledged international as he has made 11 appearances for Wales, with his debut for his country coming in 2024.

James was one of the standout players in what was a disappointing season for Birmingham, making 42 Championship appearances and scoring eight goals in the league as he announced himself to the footballing world as a top talent.

Why would Leeds want the Birmingham midfielder?

Leeds’ interest in the midfielder comes after their starting central midfielder from last season Glen Kamara was sold to Rennes recently for £8.4 million.

Manager Daniel Farke reportedly sees James as the perfect replacement for Kamara as they look to compete for the Championship title in 2024 after their play-off final heartbreak in May.

James has already drawn interest across Europe, with Europa League winners Atalanta previously showing interest in the Welshman.

He would also enter a fantastic environment of familiar faces, with fellow Welshmen Ethan Ampadu, Daniel James and Joe Rodon already being key parts of their side.
