‘It wasn’t a huge issue in our minds’: Geelong coach Chris Scott plays down extent of Tyson Stengle antics

AFL News 2024: Geelong Cats, Tyson Stengle hospital, nightclub incident, North Melbourne win, Chris Scott comments

Geelong coach Chris Scott has played down the extent of star forward Tyson Stengle’s nightclub incident following the club’s win over North Melbourne in round 20.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, after the Cats 40-point win over the Roos on Saturday afternoon in Launceston, paramedics were called to the Bloom nightclub in Geelong to attend to an incident.

Stengle was then taken to University Geelong Hospital around 2.30am in a “serious condition” according to an Ambulance Victoria statement.

The 25-year-old premiership star also retained his spot in the side, in a move Scott has backed.

“It wasn’t ideal, but it wasn’t a huge issue in our minds,” Scott said on Friday.

“He seems very good to me… and they’re supremely confident that he’s in good shape.

“He’s certainly trained well and moved well and seems well enough in himself.

“He’s excited to go out and play well, which is what we expect.”

The Cats also decided against punishing Stengle for his antics, with Scott holding strong on that fact that it was an “error” in judgement and nothing more sinister.

“It’s not an authoritarian regime, where the coaches warn that if you behave badly, you’ll get turfed out,” he said.

The Cats face off against Adelaide at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
