Ipswich offer for signing too weighted on bonuses – Rivals can win with lower fee
It seems Ipswich Town have joined the hunt for Panathinaikos striker Fotis Ioannidis.
That’s reported by the Greek media, and now covered in Portugal, where A Bola highlights the attempt.
It’s claimed that Ipswich have placed a €22.5m bid to sign Ioannidis, and that was turned down by the Greek side.
An interesting aspect is that €20m is expected to be enough to land the striker, however, the English club’s offer relied on too many transfer bonuses, and that wasn’t appreciated.
Sporting, who’ve been chasing Ioannidis for a while, are now more confident that they can win this race, since they can reach something close to €20m without depending on add-ons.
It’s said that the Lions are expected to send their new offer to Panathinaikos this week, and it could get nervy if Ipswich return with a new bid.
The other club who’d been in this competition is Lille, but since they were turned down by the player himself, they’re not expected to continue running for him.
