Marlins’ Chisholm Jr. Among Players Seen as Most Likely to Be Traded by MLB Execs

Miami Marlins outfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. is reportedly seen as the most likely position player to be traded before the July 30 deadline.

Jim Bowden of The Athletic polled more than 35 executives who pegged Chisholm as the top trade target on the market, with the San Francisco Giants and Philadelphia Phillies being two potential destinations.

Chisholm, 26, is on pace for arguably the best season of his MLB career. He’s hitting .264/.330/.438 with 10 home runs and 37 runs batted in, adding 14 steals in 19 attempts. If he’s able to continue this pace, Chisholm may pull off his first career 20-20 season after narrowly missing the mark in 2021 and 2023.

The Marlins have Chisholm under team control through 2026, and he’s making just $2.6 million this season, so making a move isn’t urgent. However, Miami may be able to maximize the value of Chisholm’s return by trading him now—all while avoiding the more expensive years of arbitration.

Miami currently has the third-worst record in MLB at 28-51 and has no signs of improving any time soon. The franchise shockingly made the playoffs last season but regressed to the mean hard after not making any moves to improve the roster over the winter.

Miami’s farm system also ranks among the worst in baseball, so the only way for a long-term improvement will be to sell off players already on the roster. Chisholm isn’t the type of talent who will get more than one blue-chip prospect, but it’s better than the complete lack of promise the Marlins have now.
