The Sydney Kings have granted Angus Glover a release from the final year of his contract, which means the 25-year-old is now a free agent heading into NBL25.

Glover joined the Kings ahead of NBL21 after he represented Sydney’s state rivals Illawarra across four injury-struck seasons.

He was a crucial piece in the Kings’ back-to-back titles in NBL22 and NBL23, and Kings CEO Chris Pongrass says Glover has departed Sydney with the best wishes of the club.

“We can’t thank Gus enough for everything he has given our club,” Pongrass said. “He played such an important role in our success over his time with us, both on and off the court.

“Gus has overcome so many challenges in his young career, but he embraced this and blossomed into a leader, a fierce competitor and a wonderful young man.

“As a club we only want what is best for our players and to allow them the opportunity to continue to grow and develop.”

Glover says the decision to part ways with the club, while a difficult one, is what is best for his career.

“While I’ll miss Sydney I believe, with where my head is at, this decision to leave is the best for me at this point of my career,” Glover said.

“I just want to say thank you to everyone involved at the Kings over the last four years, including the ownership group, Chris Pongrass, and all my incredible teammates.

“The club helped me through some tough times early one, and we won two championships together.”
