Vorster Inks Deal With  Leksands IF, SDHL

HAMDEN, Conn.— Graduate defender Courtney Vorster has signed with Leksands IF of the Swedish Women’s Hockey League (SDHL). Vorster posted 11 points this season with a game-winning assist on Sadie Peart goal against St. Lawrence in the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals. Vorster was named the team’s End of Year Banquet recipient of the Best Defensive Player Award for the second time in her Bobcat Career. Vorster will join her former teammate and fellow Bobcat Hockey alumna, Shay Maloney who recently signed with Leksands IF.

“Courtney has made a big impact as a Bobcat with two NCAA Tournament appearances and earning the team’s best defensive player award in her final year at QU for the second time,” said Head Coach Cass Turner. “We’re confident that her hockey IQ, consistency, and competitiveness will help her to make that same impact with Leksands IF in the SDHL. Congrats Court, and good luck!”

Vorster saw action in all 40 matchups this season and ended the year with a +19, ranking fifth among the team and second on defense. She played a total of 132 games through her five year career, notching 8 goals and 33 assists for 41 points. Her first collegiate goal came against Princeton in the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals in February of 2020.

Vorster was a finalist for the 2021 ECAC Hockey Best Defensive Player Award and opened the 2021-22 season on a four-game point streak. A two-time member of the Team Canada U18 team, she won a silver medal with Team Canada at the 2017 U18 IIHF World Women’s U18 Championship. She was also named the Top Defenseman at the 2017 Canada National Women’s U18 Championship in Quebec City, Quebec.
