‘Got schooled’: Dynamic Aussie duo put England to sword as coach fuming
Australia have run out 13-goal winners over rivals England in the opening match of their three-Test series, as Roses coach Jess Thirlby was left lamenting a horror start.
Dynamic Vixens duo Sophie Garbin (46/48 goals) and Kiera Austin (24/26) showed no mercy in attack to carve up England in the 70-57 result on Thursday night at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.
Already down by 11 goals at half time, Thirlby changed her entire line up in shock scenes as she told Fox Netball her side was “schooled” at both ends of the court.
Star El Cardwell was benched after only one quarter as game MVP Sarah Klau (four gains) took control of a Diamonds defensive unit missing Courtney Bruce and Jo Weston.
The loss is a horror start for England who came to Australia determined to compete against the world’s best.
But aside from a third quarter fightback, where the Roses closed to within five goals early in the fourth, the visitors were never in the contest.
The result ensures England remain winless against Australia in Adelaide.
