News now: Chargers officially announced the signing of another QB

Chargers sign LB Blake Lynch, WR Jalen Reagor to practice squad

On Tuesday afternoon, the Chargers officially announced the signing of both linebacker Blake Lynch and wide receiver Jalen Reagor to the practice squad. In a corresponding move, the Chargers released tight end Luke Benson and cornerback Nehemiah Shelton.

Reagor was most recently with the Patriots in 2023 where he mainly played on special teams and returned a kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown. Lynch was a core special teams player for the Chargers in 2023 and will likely fill that same role with numerous special teams contributors currently out with injuries.

The decision to sign Reagor likely comes from the coaching staff attempting to infuse some competition in the return game. Darius Davis was a Second-Team All-Pro as a punt returner in 2023 but has looked cautious and unsure of his decision-making through the first three games of the season.

Jim Harbaugh and Joe Hortiz have stayed consistent to the philosophy of churning the bottom of the roster and this move only signals that they felt the need to do some churning following Sunday’s loss to the Steelers.
