In today’s edition of Auburn Tigers News, Jaylin Williams signs a 10 day deal with the Denver Nuggets and Jarrett Stidham leads the Broncos’ QB Battle
Today is all about former Auburn Tigers who have ended up in Denver. The 2024 NBA Draft ended on Thursday night, and though his name did not get called, former Auburn basketball player Jaylin Williams will have the opportunity to compete for a roster spot.
Williams signed an Exhibit 10 deal with the Denver Nuggets, meaning he can compete for a roster spot during training camp and could earn a two-way deal based on his summer league performance. Other teams can pull him for workouts, but the Nuggets will have the first right of refusal.
According to Auburn Live, Williams was nearly drafted by the Nuggets or Dallas Mavericks:
“Sources told Auburn Live that Williams was under strong consideration to be drafted by the Denver Nuggets or Dallas Mavericks at the end of the second round. The Nuggets ended up trading out of their final pick and the Mavericks went the international route with their pick.”
Jarrett Stidham leads the Broncos’ QB Battle
Also in Denver are former Auburn football quarterbacks Jarrett Stidham and Bo Nix. Though they were not teammates on the Plains, they are now competing for the QB1 role for the Broncos after Nix was drafted earlier this year.
As the #12 overall pick, one might think that Nix is the favorite to start this season, but according to Broncos head coach Sean Payton, Stidham is leading the competition heading into training camp.
“He’s doing well,” Payton said when asked about Stidham on June 11, per Broncos Wire. “Clearly, within the framework within what we’re doing, he is much further along than in Year 1 in the transition. I’d say he’s looked really sharp during this offseason program. [He is] real decisive. I think the leadership he is able to provide there, and there’s good competition.”
