Oklahoma Sooners made a clear and shocking announcement just now about…..

Oklahoma Sooners Football offensive coordinators Seth Littrell and Joe Jon Finley have been named.

Oklahoma has promoted two assistants to fill Jeff Lebby’s position as head coach at Mississippi State.

Oklahoma has announced that offensive analyst Seth Littrell and tight ends coach Joe Jon Finley will fill Jeff Lebby’s post as offensive coordinators, three days after he was named head coach of the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

Littrell, a captain on the Oklahoma Sooners’ national championship team in 2000, returned to OU this offseason after serving as head coach at North Texas from 2016 to 2022. He previously served as offensive coordinator at North Carolina (2014-15), Indiana (2012-13), and Arizona (2010-11). Littrell’s offenses improved significantly at each of his coordinator stops, ending with his 2015 UNC attack being second nationally in offensive SP+. He has also worked with Bill Bedenbaugh at both Arizona and Texas Tech. The value of chemistry between an offensive coordinator and offensive line coach cannot be understated, which is why this appears to be a strong fit.

Finley, a former team captain, has been the tight ends and h-backs coach at Oklahoma since 2021. He was the tight ends coach at Ole Miss (2020), Texas A&M (2019), and Missouri (2016-18) before returning to Norman. He was also the passing game coordinator at Ole Miss. This move is aided by his familiarity with the system, vocabulary, and individuals, and he’s also garnered wonderful accolades behind the scenes for his schematic comprehension.

Oklahoma did, without a doubt, examine external candidates, and that process was most likely underway prior to Lebby’s hire at MSU. When Sean Lewis accepted the head coaching position at San Diego State, it likely signaled the end of all of that, with Oklahoma opting to stay in-house.

The fact that any potential damage has been restricted should not be disregarded in all of this. Oklahoma appears to be losing no position coaches, and the Sooners have only lost one recruit (WR Dozie Ezukanma) thus far, with many others openly confirming their commitment.

Oh, and Jackson Arnold appears to enjoy it.
