Sometimes, NBA players bet on themselves and that doesn’t pay off.

Either because they fail to play up to their potential or simply because there’s not much of a market for their services.

Apparently, he declined a contract extension from the Heat earlier in the offseason as he was looking to make around $15 million per year.

Now, the Heat can’t make him the same offer, and Martin hasn’t found someone else around the league who could make him an offer similar to what he was going to get in Miami.

Martin is a solid rotational piece and an efficient three-point shooter.

He can also hold his own on defense, and he had some big scoring games last season.

However, the Heat have a reputation for developing players to be perfect for their system, yet they tend to fall off as soon as they leave South Beach, so perhaps other teams are wary about signing more former Heat players.

Martin would still be welcomed by Erik Spoelstra and company, as he was quite a valuable contributor to them.

Unfortunately for him, it seems like he may have dropped the bag, and he’s going to have to settle for a lesser deal regardless of where he ends up playing next season.
