Five potential Josh Sargent replacements for Norwich City
With Norwich City striker Josh Sargent earning more interest from the transfer market, Samuel Seaman highlights five potential replacements if the American departs.
Richard Kone
Prolific striker Kone burst onto the scene with Wycombe Wanderers in 2024, making the jump from non-league to League One near-seamlessly having been signed from Athletic Newham in a gamble for the Chairboys.
Last season he scored 18 goals in 41 games in the third tier, adding another three in cup competitions. Those goals helped propel his side to the play-offs, where they were beaten by Charlton in a tight semi-final.
Martijn Kaars
Another relative breakout star of the 2024-25 campaign was Kaars, who at the more typical age of 26 looks likely to enter the footballing mainstream this summer.
Having become a stalwart of the Dutch second division with Volendam and then Helmond Sport, the Netherlands youth international joined 2. Bundesliga side Magdeburg in time to face City in a friendly at Carrow Road last summer.
Although there was to be no goal for him in NR1, he found plenty once the competitive action returned, scoring 19 in 33 league games. His powerful running style and willingness to get in-behind would suit being a Sargent replacement too, and he’s open to another move.
“After a season like this at 26, it’s logical that I want to take the next step,” he told Bild. “Now would be the right moment but I don’t know anything yet.”
Die Wölfe have so far signed Mohamed Amoura and Denis Vavro on permanent deals, while also confirming the arrival of 17-year-old Polish goalkeeper Jakub Zielinski from Legia Warsaw for a reported €900k.

Sargent has a contract with Norwich until 2028 but with the departures of Lukas Nmecha and Kevin Behrens, VfL are in desperate need of attacking options. More so because the futures of Jonas Wind and Mohamed Amoura remain uncertain.
Wolfsburg’s interest in Sargent comes after Fabio Silva rejected a move to the Lower Saxony club. The Portuguese attacker – who is expected to leave Wolves this summer – would prefer to play for a club that are playing in a European competition.
