Cockermouth and Keswick Ospreys Colts poised for debut
Cockermouth and Keswick Ospreys Colts are poised for their debut season in the Halbro North East and Cumbria League.
With a renewed focus on recruitment, they aim to bolster their ranks with rugby talent from the local area.
The Ospreys Colts recognise that nurturing young players is essential for sustained success and the current squad members have been actively engaging with school friends encouraging students in years 11 and 12 to join the team.
Their goal? To create a strong, cohesive squad that can compete at a high level.
The Ospreys commitment to player development extends beyond the pitch. By welcoming young athletes, they provide a platform for growth, skill enhancement, and teamwork.
The camaraderie within the team fosters a positive environment, where players can thrive both as individuals and as part of a collective unit.
Coach Richard Black said: “Our squad can anticipate tough, rewarding fixtures throughout the season. From local derbies to challenging away games, we are determined to make our mark.
“We will showcase the team’s talent, determination, and unwavering desire to work hard for each other. I’m looking forward to welcoming new people to the Ospreys.
“The Ospreys collaboration between neighbouring clubs was born from necessity in order to have a sufficient squad size but the team’s evolution has been a pleasure to be involved with and we’re excited about what the next two seasons will bring.
“Colts is a transitional stage in the player’s rugby development as they are no longer juniors and we will prepare them for senior rugby and what we hope will be the next step of their life long involvement in the game.”
Fellow coach Tim Green said: “We are very fortunate to have a dedicated coaching team and I am lucky to coach alongside Rich and Chris with all the energy, experience and knowledge they bring. A supportive group of parents and players invested in their own development also helps to make this a special team.
“Our pre-season training kicks off next week and we’re excited to welcome back squad members as well as some new faces as a result of our off season recruitment.”
They are joined in the coaching team by Chris Wright who said: “I can’t wait to join Tim and Richard and the Ospreys team. Having watched as a parent and helped occasionally as a coach, this team fits perfectly with my rugby principles.
