Derby County, Coventry City and Norwich City keen on Championship attacker
Sheffield Wednesday attacker Josh Windass is wanted by Derby County, Coventry City and Norwich City, according to The Star.
Sheffield Wednesday face a battle to keep hold of the player this summer amid their financial issues. SWFC are preparing for another year in the Championship.
Windass, 31, has been with the Owls since 2020 and is a key asset. He was their top scorer last season on 13 goals in the league.
In this latest update regarding his future at Hillsborough, The Star claim Derby County, Coventry City and Norwich City are interested. Wrexham and Rangers have also been mentioned as potential suitors, whilst unnamed teams in Germany are said to be keen.
Speaking on the Open Goal podcast recently, Windass said: “I’ve been there five years now which is obviously a long time but I’ve enjoyed it. I’m the top scorer now for the club this century which is a record I wanted to get… The lads were trying to get me it. I went a few games without a goal and I didn’t think I was going to get it. I scored from a yard out at Watford (in the final game of the season) and I was buzzing.”
He added: “I’ve got another year but we’ll see (what happens).”
Sheffield Wednesday latest regarding Josh Windass
Sheffield Wednesday would struggle to replace the goals of Windass if he left. SWFC may well line up against him next term based on the clubs being linked.
The Hull-born man has been a great servant to the Owls over the last five years. He has fired 50 goals in 173 matches altogether.
Windass joined the South Yorkshire club on an initial loan deal that was later made permanent. He helped them gain promotion from League One under the guidance of Darren Moore.
He has had spells in the past at Huddersfield Town, Harrogate Railway Athletic, Accrington Stanley, Rangers and Wigan Athletic. He found the net on nine occasions in 55 matches for the latter before his current club swooped in.
What now for Josh Windass at Sheffield Wednesday?
Sheffield Wednesday have been in a mess over recent times and risk losing Windass. Derby County, Coventry City and Norwich City are all in the frame for his signature, along with Wrexham and Rangers.
The Rams managed to stay up on the final day of the last campaign under the guidance of John Eustace. They have since signed Carlton Morris, Danny Batth and Andi Weimann.
Coventry City reached the play-offs last term but were beaten at the semi-finals stage over two legs by eventual winners Sunderland. As for Norwich City, they missed out on the top six and have since brought in Liam Manning as their boss from Bristol City.
Wrexham keen on 23-year-old attacker eyed by Birmingham City
Wrexham are keen on Birmingham City target Sontje Hansen at NEC Nijmegen, according to Voetbal International.
Wrexham are the latest team to show an interest in the winger. Birmingham City are also said to be in the frame, according to journalist Anthony Joseph on X.
Hansen, 23, is a key player for NEC Nijmegen but they risk losing him this summer. He is under contract with the Eredivisie side until June 2027.
In this latest update regarding his situation, Voetbal International claim the Red Dragons are eyeing up a swoop. Middlesbrough have also been mentioned as potential suitors along with FC Copenhagen.
Regarding recruitment plans, Phil Parkinson said last month, as per the Evening Leader: “We are getting closer with one or two things but it is the time of the close season. These weeks in June, a lot of players are on holiday and a lot of managers are away. Obviously early June is still very early in the transfer window but a lot of work is going on as always behind the scenes to try and build a competitive squad.”
The Welsh side were promoted from Birmingham City from League One after finishing 2nd. Charlton Athletic then won the play-offs.
