Report: Newcastle are ready to offer £43m+ for 25-year-old who already rejected PIF this summer

Talk of Federico Chiesa swapping Juventus for Newcastle United had gone quiet in recent weeks, but now the rumours are starting once again.

During the Magpies’ pursuit of Sandro Tonali, it was reported that Newcastle were looking at other potential signings from Serie A. And one player who was on Eddie Howe’s radar was Chiesa.

He looked set to leave Juventus following a falling out with Max Allegri, and it was claimed in Italy that Newcastle were ready to break the bank to sign the 25-year-old.

But the more time went on, the more it felt like this story was agent-driven. It was then stated that Chiesa had been offered to Premier League clubs, whilst he was eyeing a move to a side in the Champions League.

Newcastle tick that box, but Howe’s need for a player like Chiesa has lessened following the arrival of Harvey Barnes from Leicester.

It looked like the Barnes deal had ended talk of Chiesa joining Newcastle, but now a new story from Tuttosport suggests that the Magpies are still ‘keen’.

Newcastle and Aston Villa ready to pay big for Federico Chiesa

According to Tuttosport, two Premier League clubs – Aston Villa and Newcastle – are ‘ready’ to offer £43million plus bonuses to sign Chiesa from Juventus this summer.

As well as interest from the Premier League, Tuttosport believe that the Italy international is a target for clubs in Saudi Arabia.

However, they report that the forward has already rejected an offer from PIF to join a club in the Saudi Pro League.

So Chiesa has rejected one PIF offer, but could have another one on his way if Tuttosport’s claim about Newcastle’s interest is true.

While that would excite Toon fans who would love to see Chiesa at St James’ Park, it feels incredibly unlikely that the Magpies are going to be making a bid.

Money is tight at the minute, and Howe’s priority is improving his defence. Therefore, it would be incredibly unwise to splash out more than £40million on another attacking player.

This feels like more fanciful reporting from the Italian media.
