Bristol City | Coventry City

Bristol City welcome Coventry City to the Midlands in the early hours of the new year. The Robins concluded 2022 with a 0-0 draw at Millwall and will now look to kick off 2023 with a win.

City were better than they showed in the first half and should have been able to take advantage of the chances they created, with Antoine Semenya and Andy Weimann both going close.

More than 1,000 fans made the journey to South London and will have been delighted with the reaction to their Boxing Day loss to West Brom.

In their last game Coventry were held to a 0-0 draw by City’s Severnside neighbours, Cardiff City. Coventry are currently in 14th place in the league, five places above City. Coventry have only won one of their last five games, against West Brom, while City have suffered the opposite fate, collecting just five points out of a possible 15.

It’s the third time the two sides have met at a third ground this season, with the first coming in August when City triumphed at the Burnt Tree Stadium after Coventry were unable to cope with the pitch, and the second coming in October when they played out a 0-0 draw.

Kasey Palmer will be one of the players to watch out for at Coventry, having been dropped by manager Nigel Pearson over the summer.

Here’s the latest injury news from both Bristol and Coventry.

Injuries for Bristol City

There are no changes to City’s injury list, with Tomas Kalas (long-term) out with a knee injury, as well as on-loan striker Aydin Benarous and striker Kane Wilson, who have both suffered setbacks on the road to recovery.

After seven months out with a groin injury, Thomas Kalas has a calf problem and is expected back around Christmas time. City are being careful to prevent him from re-injuring himself.

Ayman benarous is out for the rest of the season after a setback in his rehabilitation from a torn ligament in his left knee. The defender had been making good progress in his recovery and was back on the ball training.

Wilson has been out for almost a month with a knee injury sustained against QPR in October. The striker had surgery and is expected to be back either late this month or early next week.

City have one doubt with Semenya, who made his first start in over a year, but limped towards the end against Millwall and was kept on to try and get through it, with little concern from the boss.
