Everton have confirmed the signing of Irish international Megan Campbell. The 30-year old defender joins the Blues after a successful stint with Manchester City and Liverpool in the Women’s Super League (WSL).

Campbell can play at either centre-half or left-back and will be a valuable addition to the team ahead of Sunday’s league opener against Brighton and Hove Albion at Walton Hall Park, which kicks off at 1pm (BST).

“I’m really excited to join the club,” Campbell said. “It’s a new challenge for me to come into the WSL and I can’t wait to get started. I hope I can be successful in the blue and I’m sure this season can be a great one for the team.”

Last season was a great one for Brian and the squad has shown that they can make it to the top under his guidance.

I’m looking forward to the challenge of joining the club and helping the team in any way I can,” Megan said. “I’m a senior player with plenty of experience in both domestic and international leagues, and I’ve played against some of the best players in the world. I’m looking forward to supporting my teammates and making an impact wherever I can.”

Bringing Megan to the club was a great way to bring some experience to the group, and the manager was delighted to welcome her to the club. “She has a wealth of experience in both the domestic and international leagues with Ireland, and I’m sure she will be a great addition to our team this season,” said Steyn. “I can’t wait to work with Megan this season!”
