Newcastle United have been informed that one of their transfer targets, the versatile Everton defender, will now cost just £9 million if they wish to make a January deal.

Newcastle are anxious to improve their team with reinforcements this month, but it has become evident that there isn’t much money to spend, which is why their main objective is to loan Kalvin Phillips.

According to a new Football Transfers report, Everton are seeking only £9 million for Ben Godfrey, who Newcastle has long liked.

Everton are ready to part ways with Godfrey, who has slid down the pecking order at Goodison Park and whose contract expires in the summer of 2025, in January.

The 25-year-old has made just two Premier League appearances for Sean Dyche’s side this season, with James Tarkowski, Michael Keane, and breakout star Jarrad Branthwaite preferred choices in defense.

Newcastle, who have previously expressed interest in the ‘outstanding’ Everton centre-back, are now ready to pounce on this low-cost deal with limited finances to spend in the summer season.

Godfrey will want to play more regularly, and Newcastle are reported to be interested in strengthening their defense, though whether they do so this month or wait until the summer is unclear.
