In response to criticism, Kylan Boswell puts Arizona ahead of ASU.

After Kylan Boswell scored 17 points against Arizona State on Wednesday, Tommy Lloyd and he talked about the game.

During the Washington game last weekend, there was a moment where Kylan Boswell was being yelled at by head coach Tommy Lloyd and did not look to be responding well. On Wednesday, Boswell responded in impressive fashion, scoring 17 points to lead Arizona to an 85-67 win over Arizona State.

“A lot of people had their own opinions about the moment,” Boswell said. “Nobody on the outside knows my relationship with Coach Lloyd. I was upset with myself and sometimes I don’t want to hear the truth. After reflecting on it, I realized he is always going to be trying to get on me and support me. He always wants the best for me.”

After the game, Lloyd downplayed the situation a bit and emphasized the confidence he has in Boswell.

“Kylan is a really good player,” Lloyd said. “I know he’s been under the microscope a little bit and that’s what happens when you are the point guard at Arizona. I thought he played exceptional today. To have 17 points in this atmosphere as an 18-year old is pretty awesome. Kylan and I have great conversations. It’s definitely love. I don’t know if it’s always tough. To see him come out and respond like that is a great sign for our team.

“I always want Kylan to be aggressive. I think Kylan is playing with two of the best play-making wings in the country in Caleb and Pelle. When Kylan is out there, he doesn’t necessarily need to dominate the ball. Kylan can get off the ball and give it to one of those guys and they can play in the actions. Kylan is a great floor spacer and when he’s hunting catch and shoot shots, he is a really good player.

Boswell started the ASU game being aggressive and his approach worked throughout the game.

“I feel I was a little more aggressive than usual,” he said.  Shots came my way. When I was open, I took them. I didn’t really force anything tonight. My teammates tell me if I am going to get open shots, shoot them.

“I feel we had a great game plan going into the game. We knew what their tendencies were, we knew what we wanted to stop for them and not allow them to get. I felt like we executed that really well. They were missing shots and we were kind of hitting.”

The combination of Boswell and Jaden Bradley posed major issues for Arizona State and the two balanced each other well, combining for 24 points and only turning the ball over twice.

“I always feel like I play my best when I am running the court with him,” Boswell said. “We have great chemistry building throughout the year. Always working out and figuring the stuff I like and the stuff he likes, it will only get better from here.”
