“Believe nothing you read”: The Broncos star responds to reports of a $5.5 million deal.
Brisbane Magical Child Reece Walsh has responded to rumors that he has inked a $5.5 million contract extension with Red Hill.

According to information published in a News Corp story on Tuesday night, Walsh is expected to earn the highest salary of any player in the club’s history.

When Anthony Milford inked a big contract in 2015—the year he came dangerously close to leading the Broncos to an NRL grand final—he became the team’s first $1 million player.
Yet, no player has received $1.1 million from the team each season.

Walsh denied a deal had been reached on Instagram on Tuesday night, despite the possibility that he would still be the first to do so.

“No contract has been executed.

“I’m being myself… I’ll notify you as soon as something occurs.”

“Someone give Kev (Broncos coach Kevin Walters) my number… he’s lost it, I think,” joked Walsh after that.
In a Wednesday interview with radio station Nova 106.9, Walters refuted the reports.

“I’m not sure why that has come out; there are still negotiations going on with Reece,” Walters remarked.

“I think he’ll stay for a long time, but I think he and his manager still have some issues to work out.”

Walsh would rank among the highest paid players in the game with an annual salary of $1.1 million, but he would still be well behind Kalyn Ponga, the Queensland No. 1 jumper.

At $1.4 million a season, Ponga is the highest paid player in the NRL.

Walsh broke his face on Thursday night, forcing him to miss at least a month of action.

Last year, he almost won a premiership with Brisbane and won an Origin series with Queensland, solidifying his status as one of the best fullbacks in the game.

In February, Ezra Mam, a young and talented teammate, signed a lucrative extension that will keep him at Red Hill through the end of 2029.
Arguably the most talented young roster in the league belongs to the Broncos.

Numerous players have already committed for a number of years ahead of time, including Patrick Carrigan, Mam, Deine Mariner, Brendan Piakura, Jordan Riki, and Payne Haas.

On Friday, the Broncos take on the Cowboys.
