In Colorado’s spring game, Shedeur Sanders excels and new transfers show promise.
Deion Sanders remained unfazed by the rain or the cold.
During Saturday’s spring game at Folsom Field, the Colorado Buffaloes’ coach—who happens to wear a cowboy hat—was feeling very positive.
He gave a scholarship to a dedicated running back prior to the game. He promised a bowl game to a 99-year-old superfan in the stands prior to kickoff. A receiver who had been a cornerback before switching to a tailback shone as he watched some new transfer portal additions step up before running for cover from the rain.
In addition, considering the weather, his quarterback son Shedeur looked good in front of a decent crowd.
“What we had is already known to us,” stated Deion Sanders. “But I think it was a good talent display.”

Before the game even began, Sanders picked up a microphone and acknowledged Peggy Coppom, a devoted Buffaloes fan who, with Sanders’ help last spring, kicked off the game. This time, Sanders turned to face Coppom, who turns 100 in November, and said, “We’re going to get you to a bowl game, baby.”

Despite the announced attendance of 28,424 on Saturday, the weather seemed to have reduced the number of attendees. This game was part of a big day in Boulder, as the CU Events Center hosted a concert by rapper Lil Wayne later in the evening.
Sanders monitored every facet of his team by moving about the field. He took some snaps as the holder on field-goal attempts during the pregame warm-ups.
Despite the slick conditions, his offense was clicking, with two-way standout Travis Hunter catching multiple passes. LaJohntay Wester, who joined from Florida Atlantic, and Shedeur Sanders clicked right away as well, as evidenced by their 19-yard touchdown catch.
“I’m excited to watch our receivers work together this summer—we have a ton of them and four more on the way,” Deion Sanders stated. “I can’t wait for them to move in together. The happiest young man in the building is going to be Shedeur.”
