Dan Gilbert has no doubt that Donovan Mitchell will rejoin the Cavaliers. “He adores the circumstances in Cleveland.”
There is increasing momentum that Donovan Mitchell will choose to remain with the Cleveland Cavaliers in the long run, and one of the key players in this process has expressed some confidence in this regard: Dan Gilbert, owner of the Cavaliers.

Since the Utah Jazz traded Mitchell to Cleveland ahead of the 2022–2023 NBA regular season, there has been talk about his future with the Cavaliers. When Mitchell decided not to commit to a contract extension this past offseason, it reached a fever pitch and has continued to be the main topic of conversation whenever the Cavaliers are discussed.

The most recent rumors seem to point toward Mitchell, 27, choosing to re-sign with the Cavaliers after many had him leaving the team to play elsewhere. This also applies to Gilbert’s upbeat comments.

An NBA insider earlier this week stated that there is a growing belief in the league that Mitchell intends to stay with the Cavaliers after his contract expires. His current contract, which he signed with the Jazz, has a player option for the 2025–2026 NBA season and runs through the following season.

Georges Niang, a teammate of the Cavaliers, stated earlier this month that he would venture to guess that the All-Star will be a Cavalier for a very long time.

These opinions differ from previous ones that suggested Mitchell might want to leave Cleveland. Some of those speculations even mentioned the New York Knicks because of Mitchell’s connections to the city and remarks he made after the Cavaliers’ playoff loss to them the previous season.

Due to a knee injury and a nasal fracture, Mitchell is currently out but could be back against the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday. The Cavs are 2-4 in the games that he has missed over the last six. They are now half a game behind the Knicks for third place in the Eastern Conference after dropping to fourth place with a 44-29 record.

Another illustration of Mitchell’s importance to the team on the court is this recent small sample size without him. The franchise’s future would be assured for many more years to come if he was signed for a longer term.
