Exclusive: Despite exit links, Ipswich Town secures a deal to keep a fan favorite at Portman Road.

Premier League’s newest players TEAMtalk can exclusively reveal that Ipswich Town has chosen to extend goalkeeper Christian Walton’s contract at Portman Road.

Walton’s current contract was set to expire at the end of June, but sources have confirmed that Ipswich has chosen to exercise an option to extend his affiliation with the team until 2025.
Unfortunately, the 28-year-old has had to fill in as Vaclav Hladky’s backup this season after suffering an injury that prevented him from playing in the opening games of the Championship campaign.

With the team riding high at the top of the table, Hladky has taken his chance between the sticks and maintained possession of the No. 1 shirt under Kieran McKenna.

Walton, who has made four appearances across all competitions this season, including a late cameo off the bench in last weekend’s promotion-clinching victory over Huddersfield Town, has extended his stay with Ipswich Town.

Walton is a beloved player at Portman Road and was a key member of the Ipswich team that was promoted from League One in the 2022–2023 season.

During Ipswich Town’s League One promotion campaign, the former England U21 goalkeeper started all 46 games and recorded 23 clean sheets, earning him the Golden Glove award.

Walton originally joined Ipswich on loan from Brighton in the summer of 2021, and he has made 89 appearances for the team since signing a permanent contract in January 2022.
