Everton expect to now agree Conor Coady deal

Everton are planning to complete the permanent signing of centre-back Conor Coady, sources have told Football Insider.

The Toffees signed Coady on loan from Wolves last summer on a deal that includes a £4.5million buy option.

It is believed that Everton fully intend the trigger the option and sign Coady on a full-time basis.

New Everton boss Sean Dyche is a big admirer of Coady’s experience and leadership, and is keen to tie the defender down to a permanent deal.

Coady, who was born and raised in Merseyside, is also very happy at Goodison Park and eager for the deal to be completed.

Coady’s professional career started at Merseyside rivals Liverpool, but he made just two senior appearances for the Reds before leaving the Anfield club in 2014.

Coady has spent the majority of his career with Wolves after joining the club in 2015 when they were competing in the Championship.

He played a huge part in helping Wolves back to the Premier League in 2018/19 after becoming the club’s captain the season prior.

Coady made a total of 317 appearances for Wolves and scored seven times before leaving the club after slipping down the pecking order under Bruno Lage.

He described the pre-season as a “tough season” under Lage and explained that he “wasn’t going to play” under the Portuguese boss and therefore pushed for a move to Everton.

Coady immediately became a first-team regular for the Toffees and has made 22 appearances across all competitions in his debut season for the club.
