Paul Robinson believes it will be difficult for Rasmus Kristensen to become a consistent starter for Leeds United in the second half of the season.

The Danish full-back has lost his place to Luke Ayling in recent weeks and was used for the first time in six matches during the 1-0 defeat to Everton.

Robinson feels that Ayling’s improved form will see Leeds’ summer signing continue to be used as a bit-part player for the remainder of the campaign.

“Kristensen is in a direct fight for his place with Luke Ayling. I think Ayling is a top right back and I think Kristensen will only play if Ayling gets injured or suspended,” Robinson exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“He’s very consistent, you know what you’re going to get from Ayling and I think it’s going to be difficult for Kristensen to make a regular stake for a claim in the side again.

“If there are defensive injuries or he uses a back three then he’s got an opportunity. In a back four Ayling plays but if it’s a back three and he’s a centre half then Kristensen comes in as the wing-back.

“I can’t see him being a regular starter.”

It’s been a tough first season for Kristensen at Elland Road, particularly with the sacking of Jesse Marsch. However, he is contracted to the club until 2027 and has plenty of time to show his worth in the coming seasons.

Leeds take on Southampton on Saturday in what is shaping up to be a must-win fixture for Javi Gracia in his first match in charge at Elland Road.
