Leicester City are ‘keeping an eye’ on Paris Saint Germain midfielder Renato Sanches as a replacement for Youri Tielemans.

That’s according to Jeunes Footeux, who say the Foxes are already planning ahead for the departure of the Belgian midfielder.

They explain that Leicester know Tielemans will not be extending his contract at the club, which expires in the summer, and so are looking for a midfielder ‘with a similar profile’ as a replacement.

Sanches is one such player and he has been ‘selected’ as a potential signing this summer to fill the hole left by Tielemans’ departure.

The Portugal midfielder has been with PSG since last summer, when he was signed by Luis Campos, but is in ‘great difficulty’ at the club and has only started three times in the league all season due to injury issues.

It is likely Leicester will be able to ‘take advantage’ of this opportunity to get a deal over the line, although they would prefer a loan deal to a straight transfer.

At the moment they are yet to make their move and need to secure their place in the Premier League first, where they are currently 17th in the table and only a point outside the relegation zone.

A possible relegation would obviously change their transfer plans and so there has been no definitive move for Sanches, but he is certainly on their list of Tielemans replacements.

CCFPA would also like to wish one of our youngest members, former Sky Blue forward George Thomas a very ‘Happy Birthday’ for today! Born in Leicester on 24th March 1997 the still young man is celebrating his 26th birthday today!

George came up, alongside so much other talent, through Coventry City‘s Academy programme and developed into a popular goal-scoring midfielder/ striker.  His talent was quickly recognised by (now fellow CCFPA member) Steven Pressley who blooded him in the Sky Blues first team as a seventeen year old centre forward on 28 January 2014 in a 2–0 defeat at Leyton Orient in League One (his only first team appearance that season).

In October 2015 George was loaned out to Yeovil Town for experience for a month and played five times for them in total. He got his first goal for the Sky Blues first team in an EFL (Checkatrade) Trophy tie against Wycombe Wanderers on 9 November 2016 and he scored again in our 2-1 win against the Chairboys in the Trophy Semi Final.

He, and Sky Blues fans everywhere, will always remember the brilliant Wembley winner scored by George in our 2-1 Final victory over Oxford United that ensured the Checkatrade Trophy 2016-17 came back to the Ricoh!

Many Sky Blue fans were not happy when George decided to leave the Sky Blues in August 2017 for his home town club Leicester City, signing a three year contract for an undisclosed fee. Despite putting in some impressive performances for the Fox’s Development squad he did noy manage to get a first team Premier League appearance for them (unlike his fellow CCFPA member and former Sky Blue colleague James Maddison). Instead, he was sent out on successive loans to gain further experience over his three years with the Foxes and only made six EFL Cup appearances in the U21s (deputising for the first team) netting once before leaving at the end of his contract in summer 2020.
