Leeds Utd to seal second Tottenham signing as Fabrizio Romano details brilliant agreement for Farke

Leeds United have won the race to sign Tottenham right-back Djed Spence after Fabrizio Romano provided details on what appears a bargain agreement struck between the two clubs.

The Whites are turning their focus to team strengthening in the final few days of the window after losing a plethora of players following relegation. Indeed, Leeds have seen 12 players depart – many of whom only on loan – in what has been a period of instability and change at Elland Road.

However, after convincing both Luis Sinisterra and Wilfried Gnonto to abandon their hopes to join the exodus, Leeds last week pushed through the signing of proven Championship striker Joel Piroe; a debut goal in the 4-3 win at Ipswich less than 48 hours later completed an excellent few days for the Whites.

Daniel Farke’s side are now focusing on further additions before the window closes, though a deal for Bayer Leverkusen’s Nadiem Amiri is now seemingly off.

Better news is around the corner though with a swoop for Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara now in the “closing stages”. The Whites are to pay around £5m for the 27-year-old Finland midfielder.

However, it seems as though Spence is competing with Kamara in being the next confirmed signing at Elland Road.

And according to Romano, Leeds have now struck an agreement with Tottenham to bring Spence to the club.

He tweeted: ‘Djed Spence, set to join to Leeds Utd on loan deal from Tottenham – agreement has been reached today between the two clubs #LUFC £1m loan fee, player has to give green light soon then here we go.’

He may not be the only full-back Leeds sign this week with a deal for Leicester’s Luke Thomas in the works.

The move to Leeds will be the latest exit for Spence, who has failed to impress since a £20m move to the club last summer. Signing a five-year deal from Middlesbrough last summer, the 23-year-old only made six appearances before being farmed out on loan to Rennes for the season.

By widespread reports, Tottenham have been keen to offload Spence on a permanent sale this summer. However, a lack of interest in permanent moves has seen a flood of Championship sides all make enquiries to sign the former England Under-21 man on loan.

However, with Leeds winning the race, they will find an upgrade on a position they have been in need of for some time with Luke Ayling’s better days behind him.

The agreement, however, does not give Leeds an option to sign Spence on a permanent deal.
