‘Very good level’: Former Scotland striker now says £28k-a-week Everton player set for ‘interesting battle’

Nathan Patterson of Everton, in the opinion of former Scotland striker Steven Thompson, is poised for a bright international career.

Everton’s right back Nathan Patterson has so far made 13 appearances for Scotland at the senior level. The 21-year-old is not, however, Steve Clarke’s top choice right-back for Scotland right now.

Instead, Aaron Hickey of Brentford frequently starts for Scotland instead of Patterson.

In the Scotland team, fierce competition for the position of full-back is nothing new. Left-backs Andy Robertson and Kieran Tierney are two of Scotland’s most well-known athletes. The fact that Clarke was able to use both in his starting XI suggests that Patterson and Hickey may eventually be combined.
