The Nottingham Forest boss gives an injury update on Orel Mangala ahead of the clash with Manchester City
The latest Nottingham Forest news from the club and Nottinghamshire live as they prepare to take on Manchester City

Nottingham Forest’s summer signing Orel Mangala has been ruled out for the season with a torn ligament in his left leg.

The 24-year-old was taken off in the first half of Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Everton, replaced by Ryan Yates after receiving treatment on the field, and did not feature in Sunday’s 2-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur.

According to manager Steve Cooper, it’s “not a long-term injury” and he’s well on his way to recovery at 24.

The defender is also out with a hamstring injury, while Omar Richards has a hairline fracture of his leg, both of which will keep him out of action as the Reds look to take on Manchester City on Wednesday night.

Mangala’s injury is minor, a hamstring strain, Cooper said. “It’s still unclear when he’ll return, but it’s more days or weeks away than anything else,” Cooper said.

We’ve got to be a bit cautious as it’s only a hammy, but yesterday I saw him running on the grass – with the trainers, not us. That’s a big improvement in his recovery.

“We will see where we’re at at the end of the week with it. The sooner he can be back available, the better for us.

We’re back to where we were before the Tottenham game. It’s going to be a hectic week with three games, it’s a Championship week really, but we’re ready for it.

Forest head into the game at the Etihad with four points from their opening four games. They had a good showing against Spurs last week but were beaten by Harry Kane’s brace.

After the game against City, the next game is against Bournemouth on Saturday at the City Ground.
