Burger, Campbell, Baker – Stoke City injury news ahead of Bournemouth Carabao Cup clash

Team news from the bet365 Stadium as Stoke City prepare to take on Bournemouth in Carabao Cup

Stoke City’s mid-week departure from the Championship is anything but mid-week for the Potters, as they embark on a long-awaited Wednesday night game against Bournemouth.

The Potters have secured a place in the third round of this season’s competition after thrashing West Bromwich at home and thrashing Rotherham at the Stadium of Light, and hundreds of tickets have been snapped up for a trip to the south coast.

Ben Pearson will return to face his former club after serving a one-match ban for accumulating five bookings, while Mark Travers, on loan, is ineligible against parent club.

Jack Bonham is on standby, having featured in the win over Rotherham in the cup last month, and will make his second start of the campaign.

Deadline day signing Junior Chamadeu is Cup-tied, having made his Colchester debut at Cardiff in August’s first round.

Lynden Gooch was a late substitute in Sunday’s 3-1 loss to Hull, and will be assessed, though it is unlikely he will be risked.

Tyrese Campbell will be a doubt, having taken a nasty shot to the back against Hull and being forced to watch the end of the game from the bench as he was treated with an ice pack.

There is no sign of Wouter Burger, who was withdrawn in Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Crewe following a niggle in his hamstring.

Vidigal limped towards the end, having replaced Campbell after four games out of action, and Neil conceded that he had been forced to call upon the talismanic striker before he was fully prepared.

Ki-Jana Hoefer made a welcome comeback as a late substitute, while Ryan Mmaee remains out with a hamstring injury, while Enda Stevens is yet to return from a calf injury.

Sol Sidibe returned to the fold after a bout of

Stoke striker Emre Tezgel will continue to build his fitness regime with a run-out for their under-21s against Tottenham at Clayton Wood today (7pm). Tezgel has been out of action for the past 12 months with a number of quad injuries and the club are keen to make sure he’s back for good this time.

Lewis Baker is also in the final stages of recuperation following knee surgery in pre-season.

Neil said on Friday: “Lewis is improving but he is obviously a bit of a slow burner, it is going to take a bit of time. He’s on the grass now and when you’re coming back from injury, getting back on the grass is the light at the end of the tunnel. It’s the most enjoyable phase of recovery, doing rehab to get fitter and stronger.”
