College basketball transfer portal 2024: Ranking top 70 players as Malik Mack commits to Georgetown

Harvard transfer Malik Mack announced his commitment to Georgetown on Wednesday, giving second-year coach Ed Cooley a critical building block as he seeks to rebuild the Hoyas following a dismal three-year stretch for a historically proud program. Mack is the No. 22 player in the CBS Sports Transfer Rankings after earning Ivy League Rookie of the Year honors.

A 6-foot-1 guard, Mack averaged 17.2 points and 4.8 assists per game for the Crimson while starting 24 games during his freshman season. The Maryland native played his high school basketball at St. John’s College High School in Washington D.C., which makes his commitment to the Hoyas a homecoming.

With three years left to play, Mack could be a foundational piece for Cooley, who is seeking traction in the 2024-25 season after going 9-23 (2-18 Big East) in his first season with the program following a 12-year run at Providence. Georgetown also has a transfer commitment from former Texas Tech and TCU wing Micah Peavy, who is a high-impact defender with four seasons of Big 12 experience.

The spring portal window runs from March 18 to May 1. However, players who have entered the portal by then don’t face a firm deadline on when they must commit. Additionally, graduate transfers and players impacted by coaching changes that occur after May 1 will be able to transfer after the deadline. Players who have also entered the NBA Draft will have until 11:59 p.m. Eastern on May 29 to withdraw if they wish to return to college for the 2024-25 season.

As players enter the portal, we will rank the best of them here. The rankings will be updated regularly as players either enter the portal or announce their intentions to enter the portal.
