Sean Dyche comments spark Everton reaction from Green Day frontman Billie Joe Saunders

Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong has responded to praise from Sean Dyche by posting a mock-up of himself signing for Everton.

The American posted the image on his Instagram stories late on 23 April after the Toffees boss had urged people to listen to the band in an appearance on the Football Music and Me podcast with Geoff Shreeves a day earlier.

Armstrong posted a clip of Dyche hailing the “high octane” experience of going to a Green Day gig and followed up with a picture of his head edited onto Jarrad Branthwaite, from the defender’s contract signing in October [BBC Sport].

Everton can use all the support they can get

The club isn’t exactly short of famous fans and apparently now have another one thanks to their manager.

Everton can already name a number of figures from combat sports among their following, with Merseysiders Tony Bellew and Molly McCann well-known Toffees, as well as American Riddick Bowe.

Actor Sylvester Stallone is a follower after Bellew featured in the movie Creed [BBC Sport], while Manchester mayor Andy Burnham is convinced that Beatles star Paul McCartney is an Evertonian [FourFourTwo, 21 February].

In light of the struggles on and off the pitch at Goodison Park this season the club can use all the help they can get, although Dyche may be more excited than his players to get the backing of the Green Day front man.

Burnham has been an outspoken advocate of the club’s interests throughout the tribulations that have seen Everton deducted eight points for two profit and sustainability charges this term.

The Toffees fans have been credited with playing a key role in helping keep the club in the Premier League during the previous two relegation battles, and may yet still need to do so for a third time, as their number appears to have increased in the US.

In other Everton news, other parties have made their interest in a takeover known as 777 Partners struggle to get their deal over the line.
