First Coventry City summer signing confirmed as Dabo sent message after exit confirmed

Coventry City have confirmed the players who will be leaving the club at the end of the season.

Mark Robins’ side were left devastated after missing out on promotion to the Premier League by the narrowest of margins. Neither team could be separated across 120 minutes before the contest was settled by a missed Fankaty Dabo penalty in the shootout to leave the Sky Blues heartbroken.

It means Coventry will face another season of football in the Championship, but it has still been a remarkable campaign from a club who were playing in League Two just five years ago.

New signing

Coventry City have signed Jay Dasilva from Championship rivals Bristol City.

The 25-year-old left-wing-back will officially join the Sky Blues on July 1 after his contract with the Robins has expired.

Dasilva made more than 100 appearances during a five-year spell at Ashton Gate, scoring two goals after joining initially on loan in the 2018/19 campaign from Chelsea.

Dabo message

Coventry City defender Fankaty Dabo has received a huge amount of support from Sky Blues fans after it was announced he was among the players to be released.

Mark Robins’ side narrowly missed out on a place in the Premier League next season after losing on penalties to Luton in the Championship play-off final on Saturday.

And just a few days after suffering heartbreak at Wembley, Coventry have announced the players who will be leaving the West Midlands club with the unlucky player to miss in the shootout, Fankaty Dabo, among those released.

Racist abuse condemned

Coventry City have released a statement condemning the ‘abhorrent’ racist abuse received by Fankaty Dabo on social media following the Championship play-off final defeat against Luton Town.
