Chelsea has made a new record signing. After signing an eight-and-a-half-year contract, Enzo Fernandez could wear two different shirt numbers for the club.

Fernandez completed his £106 million move from Benfica at the eleventh hour of transfer deadline day, a British and Premier League record fee.

Argentina’s international was one of the standout performers, helping the South American country win its first World Cup since 1986.

After winning the tournament’s Young Player Award, the 22-year-old was pursued by every major club in Europe.

Benfica initially dug in their heels, rejecting several attempts from Chelsea, but were forced to sell on deadline day after the Blues refused to back out of the deal.

Fabrizio Romano, a transfer expert, has confirmed that the midfielder has completed the first half of his medical and is now on his way to London from Lisbon, where he will be officially unveiled.

In the photo, Romano appeared to reveal Fernandez’s shirt number at Stamford Bridge, and it appears he has taken Jorginho’s number five after the Italian left to join Arsenal.

However, it is thought that he may be able to use a different number for Premier League games while keeping the number five exclusively for Champions League matches.

Fernandez wore the number 13 shirt at Benfica, but Edouard Mendy now wears it.
